Our Curriculum

Developmentally Appropriate Curriculum

At The Farmhouse Early Learning and Development Center, we provide our students with a developmentally appropriate curriculum through Experience Early Learning that meets Illinois standards and is NAEYC accredited. Our curriculum is tailored to meet the developmental needs of each child, offering activities that are age-appropriate and designed to foster growth in all areas by weaving 35 research-based skills into playful games and discovery projects, creating a cross-disciplinary model that supports a child’s ongoing social-emotional, physical, language, and cognitive development.

By focusing on individual strengths and interests, we create meaningful learning experiences that build confidence, curiosity, and a positive self-image.

Developmental Areas of Focus

Cognitive Development

  • Science: Hands-on experiments and nature exploration encourage critical thinking and discovery.
  • Math: Activities like counting, pattern recognition, and sorting build early numeracy skills.
  • Social Studies: Role-playing, storytelling, and cultural exploration help children understand their community and the world around them.

Language Development

Language skills are fostered through storytelling, group discussions, songs, rhymes, and interactive conversations. These activities expand vocabulary, enhance listening skills, and encourage self-expression, building a strong foundation for reading, writing, and communication.

Social-Emotional Development

Through collaborative play, group activities, and guided interactions, children develop emotional awareness, empathy, and self-regulation. Our curriculum fosters the skills needed for forming friendships, resolving conflicts, and navigating social relationships with confidence.

Physical Development

Physical activity is woven into our daily routines:

  • Fine Motor Skills: Activities like drawing, cutting, and building strengthen hand-eye coordination.
  • Gross Motor Skills: Outdoor play, movement games, and gross motor challenges promote physical coordination, strength, and overall wellness.

Our Curriculum

When choosing a curriculum, we sought a program that aligns with our philosophy, supports holistic child development, and fosters strong connections between children, families, and teachers. The Experience Early Learning curriculum stood out as the perfect choice for many reasons:

Research-Based Approach to Learning

The Experience Curriculum is built on child development theories and brain research, ensuring that every activity and learning experience is rooted in best practices for early childhood education. Its integrated model supports teacher guidance, child exploration, and family engagement, creating a well-rounded approach that meets the needs of the whole child.

A Positive View of the Child

We believe, as the Experience Curriculum emphasizes, that every child is full of potential, naturally curious, and an essential member of their community. This curriculum is designed to nurture each child’s unique abilities and encourage their exploration of the world, fostering a love of learning and discovery.

The Teacher as a Guide

The curriculum aligns with our belief that teachers are not just educators but learners alongside the children. It positions teachers as researchers and guides who observe, support, and facilitate meaningful experiences, empowering children to take an active role in their own learning.

The Environment as a Learning Tool

The Experience Curriculum values the environment as a key part of the learning process. It encourages children to experiment with ideas, manipulate materials, and construct knowledge through hands-on exploration. This approach mirrors our commitment to creating a thoughtfully designed, engaging, and inspiring environment for all children.

Families at the Center of Learning

Families are vital to a child’s growth and development. The Experience Curriculum celebrates the culture, beliefs, and values of each family, integrating them into the learning community. This aligns with our mission to build strong partnerships with families and honor the diversity and beauty they bring to our program.

Sensory Exploration

Through collaborative play, group activities, and guided interactions, children develop emotional awareness, empathy, and self-regulation. Our curriculum fosters the skills needed for forming friendships, resolving conflicts, and navigating social relationships with confidence.

Art, Music, Dance, & Creative Expression

Creative expression is a core element of our curriculum. Through art projects, music, dance, and imaginative play, children explore their emotions, develop problem-solving skills, and celebrate their individuality. These activities build confidence and foster a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
